The Correct Way To Use Cat Collars, Leashes and Harnesses
You may or may not be aware of this but cats can learn to walk on a leash just like a dog and there are leashes, collars and harnesses especially designed for cats. This is a surprising fact to me at first because most people walk their dogs but not their cats.
Leashes
You can buy feline leashes in the form of standard leashes or retractable models types. In any case, these leashes should be lightweight enough to allow your cat to move easily under its weight. You can choose a retractable leash if you prefer to let your pet explore her surroundings in a park or other traffic safe area. This type of leash also keep them close by when they are walking to and from their homes.
When training a cat, remember that they are different from dogs so you should not use the same techniques you use to train your dog on a cat. Felines can't understand negative corrections or punishment. So if you give them a quick tug on the leash when they do not stay at your side will not do any good.
Instead, try to praise her when she does what you want and ignore her when she does what you don't want. Although you can teach your feline friend to tolerate a leash, don't expect her to consistently heel on command.
So what's the easiest way to teach your cat to use a leash? Start when she is very young - a kitten of eight to ten weeks old. Put her harness on and allow her to walk about totally unrestrained. Then add the leash a few days later. Ensure that you do not apply any pressure on the leash at first.
Once your kitty is used to the leash, you can pick it up and teach her that it is ok for you to be on the other end of the leash. Call her to you by gently applying pressure to the leash. Praise your furry friend when she responds. Sooner or later, she will become used to following you when she is on her leash. Once your favorite feline is on a leash, you can finally take her outside without worrying that she will be up to no good.
Collars
You need to know that cat collars are different from dog collars in their usage because they are not supposed to be used with a leash. The reason is a cat's heads is shaped so that it is really easy for a collar to pop right off. Instead many people use collars as pretty accessories.
Feline collars look good with jewels on them. Cat collars can also be used to hold ID tags for easier identification in the event that their pet is lost and then found later. One of the most common reason for putting a collar on your cat is to warn birds of her approach. Bells may be a low tech alarm system, but they do work.
Harnesses
Cat harnesses are designed to stay securely on a cat, even when she is on a leash. There are simple nylon harness as well as more deluxe models that look more like padded vests on sale. As long as the harness is completely adjustable, it should work well with any cat.

How do I stop my dog from tugging on her leash?
My 7 month old boxer puppy is terrible on a leash! She keeps wanting to tug and chew on it. I try not to pull back so she won't think it is a game, but I can't just let her pull me either so it gets very frustrating. She doesn't listen when I tell her "no" and I've tried using a chain leash so she won't want to bite it, but she doesn't care. She has no problem latching on and tugging metal. I also tried putting hot sauce on her nylon leash, but the little weirdo likes hot sauce! I've tried just about everything that dogs aren't supposed to like the taste of (various types of pepper, vinegar, etc.), but she seems to like the taste of it all! She eats or drinks it all and then looks up at me wanting more! How am I supposed to deter her from tugging?
