Although over the past decade we are seeing them on the increase in suburban areas. With a high crime rate and a high incident of house breaking, more people are going to greater lengths to protect their homes as well as their personal safety by installing these security measures. In this article we will be looking at electrified fencing. What it is. Why it is used. What the risks are. And whether it really works.
What is electrified fencing?
Electrified fencing is a fencing which consists of steel wire, a fence energizer which converts the electrical current, and a battery power supply. The electrified fencing acts as a barrier using electrical shocks to keep intruders away. Wooden or metal poles are put into the ground. Wires are attached to it, creating a fence. An electrical current is then sent through the wires using an electrical energizer. This energizer converts the power coming from the power supply into short high voltage pulses. When a person touches this electrified wire and also have contact with the ground they complete the electrical circuit. This results in the person being shocked. The injury caused by the shock depends on the intensity of the voltage. The effects can either be a mild shock or deadly one.
Why is it used?
Electrified fencing was initially used in agriculture to keep animals away from boundary walls. The electrical current given off by the fence, would be low enough as not to harm the animal but still emit a significant current to create a mental barrier for the animal to stay away. If the voltage is too low the animal may come close to the fence on multiple occasions before learning that the fence is harmful.
Electrical fencing are still used in the agricultural sector, however they have also become popular for another use. That use is the protection of private and commercial property from intruders.
What are the risks?
Electrified fencing posed the risk of fire break outs. The fires are caused by dry vegetation coming into contact with the electrified fence. Grass and weeds are conductors of electrical current and therefore can easily set alight and cause fires. Massive loss has been experienced on agricultural land due to fires started by electrical currents.
When a person comes into contact with an electrified fence, they can shock. One way of preventing this is by building a high wall around the property and then placing the electrified fencing above the wall.
Does it keep out intruders?
Electrified fences keep intruders out granted the fence is working properly. If there is no breakage in the fence or if the batteries are charged, then intruders cannot get over the fence without being shocked.
Electrified fencing can give you that piece of mind knowing that you have an extra measure in place to protect your home, yourself and your loved ones.

i dont want any thing i have to tear up the yard for, i just would like a shock fence like for cow !! but wear do i get one! for cheap!!
you can not train you dog not to jump the fince i have talked to like 3 different professional dog trainers and they all said the same thing , one a fence jumper always a jumper, the only way to get them to stop is to prevent them form doing it!!! i don't mind getting a shock collar stuff but i cant get the invisible fence cuz we rent and will be moving at some point!!

I saw my neighbor got these little plastic sticks you put around the border of your yard and the dog wears a collar so if he goes past it shocks and scares him..... I think he got them at like canadian tire or something...
