Is spandex making me sweat more?
I just started using spandex under my shorts for running (because of chafing). I have noticed that I sweat more than before. Is my mind playing tricks on me? The spandex I have is mainly made of polyester. Some friends have said that this is the reason, since cotton is the best for sweating less. But, up to where I know, most of the spandex shorts out there are made of polyester. The brand I bought is a top brand ("just do it"), so its supposed to be made for athletes, at least that is what the merchandise says. Can anyone tell me if there are any cotton spandex out there (or any other option)? Or just tell me if Im being a little crazy here.
spandex, and for that matter most polyesters, will retain the heat you build up. look for dry weave or cool weave clothing. the kind that wicks moisture away from your body during excercise. cotton is ok, but it gets wet and stays wet, even though it breaths. if chaffing is a problem for you then I suggest you try a product call body glide. it comes in a deodorant type stick that you apply wherever chaffing is a problem. you can even use it on the soles of your feet to help prevent blisters. it's great, doesn't stain or leave a goopy mess like Vaseline.
