Types of Chihuahua Dogs
The word "Chihuahua" means an arid, sandy place and there are actually several types of Chihuahua dogs. Apple head Chihuahuas have a very round head, a small snout, and close-set eyes. Their heads can be shaped like deer or they can have apple heads. These fascinating animals originated in Chihuahua, Mexico and were objects of worship to the ancient Aztecs. It is believed that Chihuahuas may be the oldest breed of dog to exist in the American continents.
If you love Chihuahuas, of course you'll want to know more about them. Whichever type of Chihuahua dog you find, you owe it to yourself to think about taking one of these small devoted dogs home with you; you will find them to be entertaining and companionable pets for many years to come. The ones with deer heads have an elongated nose similar to Doberman Pinschers. The darling tan dog that starred in the Taco Bell commercial is representative of the most popular type of Chihuahua. Don’t be fooled into paying more for a Chihuahua merely because of its description.
Long-Haired Chihuahuas can have flat or curly hair, and it is quite soft, with extra fluff around the tail and ears. The Chihuahua in part due to their portable size has become quite popular lately and their popularity continues to grow. In addition, once you buy one Chihuahua, you will want to get another! All Chihuahuas are genetically a toy breed, and breeding to produce the tiniest dog possible is a long-established custom. Standard Chihuahuas today weight six pounds or less, and are six to nine inches tall. A slighter larger breed of Chihuahua existed in the 2nd century BC, and was known as a symbol of the upper class.
If you live in an apartment, you couldn't do better than to get one of these tiny dogs. The American Kennel Club recognizes long-haired and short-haired types of Chihuahuas. Chihuahuas come in all sorts of colors, including chocolate, cream, silver, blue, black and fawn. Although the Chihuahua is known as the smallest of the dog breeds, but what many people don't realize is there are different Chihuahua types. Their tail is sometimes curved. It was probably bred with miniature Chinese dogs which the Spanish introduced to the New World. It’s easy to understand why Chihuahuas are the 10th most popular dog in the United States, since they're such an intelligent dog, and fiercely protective of their owners.
Shorthaired companions may need a little extra warmth, sometimes burrowing under covers to maintain their body heat while asleep. They are wonderful companions and live a long life, in many cases getting to be 16 years or older. The terms "teacup" and "mini" when applied to Chihuahuas are merely commercial designations used to try to elicit high prices from the buyer. This little powerhouse has a huge heart so don't be fooled by its tiny size! The smooth coat of the short-haired type sheds very little. My friend has a Chihuahua that will growl whenever anyone has the audacity to uncover her.

How do i train my pet chihuahua?
Jax is about two years old and listens well. He already knows basic commands like come, go lay down, and sit. However, i would like to train him to do more complicated commands like dance (where he stands on his hind legs and spins around), role over, speak, shake, heal, but most importantly i would like to teach him to touch my hand with his nose when i tell him to. any advise on how to teach him to do any of those tricks? Touching your hand with his nose (also known as "hand targetting") is VERY simple to teach. I taught it to my 2 year-old female Jack Russell Terrier, who was a rescue, as well as my 3 month-old Chihuahua puppy. 
Hand Targetting:
1. To start, hold up your right hand with your palm facing your dog. Fold your thumb against your palm, and hold a treat between your thumb and your palm. The treat should be small enough that it won't fall, and your dog shouldn't be able to eat anything from around your thumb. Wet treats work especially well for this trick because they smell stronger, so it's easier to entice the dog to sniff your hand.
2. If you use a clicker or a marker word (ie. "yes!"), use it when the dog comes up to sniff the treat, even if he doesn't necessarily touch your palm with his nose. As soon as he touches your hand (or at least gets very close to it), say the word "touch," and reward with a treat from your left hand, then praise him. This is called "catching a behavior."
** In the beginning, you want to say "touch" as he is performing the trick correctly. Don't ask him to touch your hand before he offers the behavior until he is performing the trick with about 90% accuracy. If you give him a command that he doesn't know, it will lose its meaning.
3. Put your right hand behind your back for a few seconds before bringing it back out to repeat the trick. If you don't remove your hand, the dog will be confused and won't know what to do. By removing your hand and bringing it out again, it becomes a new stimulus. He should start to catch on after about 6-10 tries.
** If he wasn't quite touching our hand before, you want to make sure that he is at least brushing your palm before moving on to the next step. Withold the click and treat until he touches your hand, and he should get frustrated and try to nibble at the treat, thus touching your hand.
4. The next step is to offer your hand WITHOUT a treat between your thumb and palm. He will sniff your hand out of practice, so you should mark this behavior with a click or other marker right away, and praise and treat.
5. Remove your hand, wait a few seconds, and present it again. Repeat this process until he is touching your hand with his nose with about a 99% accuracy.
6. Start to ask him to touch your hand by saying "touch" in a happy tone. Click, praise, and treat whenever he offers the correct response.
7. If he seems to really understand the concept, make it harder by lifting your hand a few inches, or laying the back of your hand flat on the floor. Try moving your hand from side to side. By varying the trick, you're teaching him to adapt what he already knows to different situations, which can help when you try to train other tricks.
Dance:
To teach the dance trick to my Jack Russell, I used a target stick (ex. http://home.comcast.net/~dogscene/prodimages/clikstik2.jpg). Using a treat to lure the dog can sometimes get them to have "tunnel vision," where they blindly follow the treat and don't really work out what they're doing. Once I taught her hand targetting, I applied the "touch" command to the end of the target stick. Then I started lifting the target stick into the air, getting her to jump or stand up on her hind legs in order to touch it. When she got that, I extended the amount of time that she had to stand up in order to get the click/treat. Then I started to spin the target stick a little bit in order to get her to look like she was dancing.
Shake:
Shake is another easy one. Use the same process as the "touch" command, but instead of clicking/treating when he sniffs or touches your hand with his nose, hold the treat until he gets frustrated and tries to paw at it. Say the word "shake" or "high-five" (depending on what you're trying to teach), click/treat and praise.
