Top 3 Things To Consider Before Buying A Baby Carrier For Your Baby
If you are going to buy a new carrier to carry your baby with you wherever you go, you need to take some important factors into consideration before deciding on which carrier to buy. This is simply because you cannot just buy a carrier and expect it to be safe, comfortable and ergonomic at the same time.
As you know, babies are so fragile that they need ongoing care and attention. And as a parent, it is in your responsibility to protect and keep them safe. You have to give them the best you can.
Often times, you will have to take your baby along with you and to do so you will need some type of means. For the sake of simplicity and safety, the best choice will be a baby carrier. As there are many types of carriers such as, backpack carriers, front carriers, sling carriers and wrap carriers; you have the option to choose from a wide range of products. Though, caution should be taken while choosing the right one.
There are three important things when it comes to decide on the right carrier. First one is safety. You have to ask yourself the question "Will my baby be safe in this baby carrier?". To answer this question, think about on how and where you will use the baby carrier. Will you use it in the house, will you use it while driving, or will you use it on a long trip on foot? After answering this question, you need to do some research about the various types and brands of baby carriers to see what suits best to your needs. Ask to the companies which provide carriers about your safety concerns. And surely, they will help you.
Comfort is another concern in the decision process. Safety is not the only factor that will be enough, as you have to ask yourself the following question "Will my baby be comfortable in this baby carrier?". Think about if you will move a lot with the carrier or you will just be sitting on a bus trip. Think what you will be doing while carrying your baby and if it will be comfortable meanwhile. Compare different types of carriers according to the answer and you will find the right one.
Another point to take into consideration is the materials used in the production of the baby carrier. Ask the following question to the company before you buy from them "What is your baby carrier made of? Will it cause any health problems to my baby?". In addition to safety and comfort of your baby, you have to take health concerns into consideration too. Since your baby will be in direct touch to the carrier most of the times, the materials use in the carrier should not cause any health problems to your baby. Try to find people who used a baby carrier before and ask them if they experienced any health problems. Or you can simply ask to the provider to give you information about the subject.

What is your favorite type of sling/carrier?
I already asked this in NB and wondered if anyone here had something different to say. I will have an eighteen month old and a newborn. I was looking for something for the newborn.
I really enjoy my ring sling (like Maya wraps) that I've been using since my son was about 11 months old. It has pretty good support for his weight and is easy on/off and easy in/out for us.
I also really like (though I haven't tried) mei tais (like babyhawks). They seem like they would offer more full body support for a smaller baby and that they grow well with the baby. They also seem like a 'middle' step between a full wrap and a sling, which is nice. They seem to have a lot of the benefits of a wrap with out all of the fabric. They don't support a cradle carry, though, from what I can see, where slings and wraps do.
I suggest that you *don't* get a wrap just because of how much fabric it involves. It's something that is more difficult to put on when you are out, especially with two kids waiting in the car. You have to wrap yourself, plus you have to manage not letting the tails of the wrap drag on the ground. It's kind of something you have to put on at home and keep on.
