What Exactly Are Bed Bugs?

These pesky bugs are nasty little blood-sucking critters that prey on human blood. They are small, almost microscopic white or tan insects. They become red or dark red once they have fed on blood, usually growing twice in size due to the feeding.
Bed bugs do like to suck blood from domesticated pets as well, but their preferred source of blood comes from us, people. Women, men, children... no one is safe from these little guys. They have adapted well to living in college dormitories, hotels, hostels, motels, barracks, and really anywhere there are warm-blooded animals.
These little guys hide during the day, and come out at night. Our own little vampires! However, we should keep in mind that although they normally come out at night to feed, they hide everywhere! So if you have a closet, night stand, bureau, or armoire that's within 15 feet or so of your bed, they may be hiding in there as well.
These insects don't just hide in your bedding either. They can be found in the seams of the mattress and even behind the cheese-cloth (fabric) of the box spring!
The bugs do not fly, but they do travel. They hide in the dark crevices of your clothes, jeans, sweaters, bookbags, luggages, etc. and you take them with you wherever you go. Once thought to have been lead close to extinction, since the removal of chemical compounds of DDT, they have made a serious comeback!
